From time to time, I implement weeks of blended learning so as to give my students variety in the classroom. This mathematically-inclined instructional strategy involves the teacher giving a traditional lesson during the first half of the class, but allows for the students to use their Chromebooks to complete online math activities during independent practice. During this time, I break the class into groups based off aptitudes and go from group to group. Blended learning is particularly great for math classrooms since it allows me to differentiate my instruction based off the host of links available online which are catered to students at all levels. I then assign each group problems for them to complete for me based off their prior math skills. I then later check in on each group and offer assistance to those students in each group who are getting particularly stuck. The other group members in the blended learning group also serve to help the struggling student by providing examples of their work for him or her to dissect piece by piece and then emulate.
